Somebody commented to question the shark if he was fine, and he responded by saying that he’d heard the shark had developed cancer.
Observers at San Diego State University recently expressed some concern about a well-known professor who made extraordinary anti-Israel feedback on his Instagram page. Officials met with the teacher, but they won’t take any action, according to the professor’s social media posts.
Professor Roberto Hernández of Chicano Studies posted an article titled” A Shark Eaten an Israeli Soldier from the 8207 Battalion in Occupied Palestine” on his personal Facebook page. In addition to his late-April publish,” Shark Oyate for the succeed! # FreePalestine #solidarity
Hernandez responded by saying he “heard the fish contracted cancer” when somebody commented to check whether the shark was fine, according to pictures The College Fix obtained.
The professor describes himself on Facebook as” a proud pro-Semite and an unapologetic anti-Zionist… He supports ] the Semitic Palestinian people and the original Jewish people of Palestine.”
Although his report states that he is a teacher at SDSU, his private Facebook page is his.
Hernandez also serves on the SDSU Press editor table, chaired the University Senate’s 2024-25 La council, and served on the hunt commission for the College of Arts and Letters ‘ cluster get on “border studies.”
Some people praised him in his original post while others called it “despicable conduct,” especially for a professor.
Hernandez defended his position, saying it was “hilarious how you keep trying to make me appear as I am in the school.” The poster was then invited to his school, and he was also cursing him because he was “uninformed” and “insinuating.”
When the poster responded,” How you conduct yourself in and out of the classroom environment is related,” he cursed, called her a Karen, and instructed her to “get off my wall.”
Eventually, he claimed to have been “keeping up with at least 4-5 edges of this condition” and that the commenter she was making up because she was lying to him.
Another person said it was” torturous” and that they hoped the Israeli man was aware of what was happening. Hernandez liked the post, which was his response.
Hernández was contacted by The College Fix and asked for his opinion. He responded by saying that” of course, he] will not be responding to such a trap that is obviously fishing for grime” and that the situation is an “orchestrated… manufactured problems.” He later responded by saying,” of course, he] will not be responding to such a trap that is obviously fishing for dust.
Hernandez claimed to have a meeting with the SDSU administration in the comments. He later posted an update in which he stated that” Admin can’t and won’t pursue any disciplinary action because there is nothing to discipline me about.”
Hernández wrote,” Complaints are about social media posts and wild insinuations that I must be engaging in indoctrination in the classroom, allegedly,” One thing is unmistakably obvious: there is no evidence for disciplinary action.
Hernández wrote,” All of my students will tell you that my classes are about critical analysis and rigorous analysis.” We are indeed in different times, when those who defend genocide then turn up in victim mode when challenged by those who support it.
The Hillel of San Diego was reached by The College Fix for comment.
” Hillel San Diego condemns the dehumanizing social media post by a professor at SDSU celebrating an Israeli’s death caused by a shark attack. Executive Director Karen Parry called it “abominable.”
” We also commend President de la Torre for her blatant moral leadership in confirming that such racial expressions are against SDS U’s core values,” Parry told The Fix. We support President de la Torre’s commitment to keeping SDSU welcoming to all students from the campus community, including Jews.
After the Hamas attacks on October 7, President de la Torre threw her public support behind Israel.
The College Fix contacted SDS U’s media relations department for comment, but the school did not respond.
Hernandez shared a quote from Luigi Mangione, the alleged murderer of the CEO of United Healthcare, on May 6 that read,” Normalize direct action when protesting doesn’t work.”
Trump is a 19th-century colonial white supremacist, he said in a quote released on February 5. He is what led to the United States and Western Europe, and that is partly why cosmopolitan liberals despise him so much because they don’t want to be reminded of the barbarism they benefited from, including the support for Israel.
According to his SDSU bio, Hernández teaches classes on” US/Mexico border history, theory and contemporary issues, Chicana/o and border folklore, community studies, and racialized/gendered captivity and incarceration from colonialism and slavery to the prison industrial complex and migrant detention centers.”
