After seizing the largest number of cocaine always intercepted at Sri Lanka’s key international airport, customs authorities arrested a lady on Friday. A 38-year-old Thai regional whose identity has not been made public is the think. According to Customs Additional Director-General Seevali Arukgoda, they were discovered concealing nearly 10 kilograms ( 22 pounds ) of cocaine inside three soft toys. According to Arukgoda, this is the largest heroin trafficking test that Sri Lanka Customs have ever made at the airports. The heroin was dispersed into more than 500 vinyl bags at Bandaranaike International Airport. The pills are thought to be worth$ 1.7 million on the street. Following the procedure, traditions officials photographed the seized medicines. In Sri Lanka, there have been numerous new medicine interceptions. In three distinct situations earlier in the month, customs officials seized roughly 60 kg of artificial cannabis. Three foreigners from the UK, India, and Thailand were arrested as a result of these events. If found guilty under Sri Lanka’s drug rules, the Thai lady who was apprehended on Friday may face life in prison. Sri Lanka has previously had significant cocaine seizures, particularly off its coastline. In a highly publicized case from past October, a Sri Lankan judge sentenced 10 Egyptian citizens to life in prison after they pleaded guilty to smuggling 111 pounds of cocaine. In a similar situation in 2023, nine additional Iranians were given life sentences for drug smuggling. The largest-ever single narcotics seizure in history took place in December 2016, when customs discovered 800 kilograms ( 1, 760 pounds ) of cocaine in a shipment of wood addressed to a business in neighboring India.
