This year, a large 20-foot fish gliding through the quiet waters of Great Salt Pond, just feet away from a small boat, gave Memorial Day diners at a well-known seaside cafe on Block Island more than just shrimp. Jen Seebeck, a local resident who was eating at Dead Eye Dicks, a seaside cafe with a view over the water, captured the striking image on film. The film shows the tremendous lateral and neck fins of the shark slicing through the water as admirers gasp. The now-iconic adage” There’s a fish in the pond,” which was reported in the 1975 movie Fangs, can be heard yelling at least one person. The Atlantic Shark Institute, which confirmed the incident, said the whale’s species has not yet been identified but that it has been estimated to be about 20 feet in length. The incident immediately sparked similarities to the famous film, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this time. Near call in quiet watersA little vessel was seen swimming away from the powerful monster as it passed through the open ocean. Although sharks rarely venture into deep or enclosed waterways, it is uncommon and unsettling to see such a big specimen in the little, tourist-frequented Great Salt Pond. The Atlantic Shark Institute wrote in a social media post that” Fish are arriving in Rhode Island regularly as water temperatures rise and more and more species of fish find them appealing.” ” Maybe this fish will soon find a way out of Great Salt Pond and remain on its journey.” Diverse fish species, including Great Whites, fly closer to shore in search of food as the waters along the Northeast beach warm away. A big Great White shark sighting earlier this month was now documented by Montauk, New York, just across the water using drone film. This is in line with annual behavior, according to sea researchers. Sharks normally follow as bass and other predators move closer to shore during the summer months.
