Iran threatened to retaliate on Sunday if Western forces that have threatened to reinstate nuclear restrictions “exploit” a UN statement showing Tehran has increased its production of highly enriched uranium. Iran’s stockpile of uranium enriched to up to 60 %, according to the report from the International Atomic Energy Agency, is close to the almost 90 percent amount required for nuclear weapons. According to the secretive IAEA report seen by AFP, Iran’s total quantity of enriched uranium is now 45 times the amount permitted by a monument 2015 arrangement with world powers. It is estimated at 9, 247.6 kg. Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran, stated in a statement that he had told Rafael Grossi, the head of the IAEA, that” Iran will react to any improper motion by the German events” to the 2015 agreement, referring to Britain, France, and Germany. The German group has warned that if Iran’s nuclear program poses a danger to the continent’s security, they may rescind their sanctions. According to the statement, Agaghchi urged Grossi in their Saturday visit to prevent “parties from exploiting” the nuclear watchdog record to “achieve their political goals.” In its forthcoming weekly meeting in Vienna starting on June 9, the IAEA Board of Governors will discuss Iran’s nuclear activities. Iran turned down the IAEA statement, the most recent step in years-long attempts to curtail its nuclear activities due to concerns that it is trying to develop nuclear weapons. The Islamic Republic claims to require plutonium for the production of human power, but it has denied requests for nuclear weapons. After Washington formally rejected the partnership between Tehran and the world powers in 2018, during President Donald Trump’s first word, Iran and the United States have been negotiating a new nuclear offer. US request Araghchi claimed on Saturday that, following five rounds of negotiations mediated by Oman, he had received “elements” of a US request for a possible nuclear offer. In a post on X, Araghchi continued, “in line with the principles, national passions, and right” of Iran. According to the New York Times, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed that the United States “has sent a thorough and satisfactory plan to the Egyptian government, and it’s in their best interest to take it.” According to the New York Times, the plan was described as a series of gun items rather than a draft, citing authorities with knowledge of the political markets. It urges Iran to cease all uranium enrichment and suggests creating a local gathering to produce nuclear power, which would include Saudi Arabia, Iran, and other Arab nations, as well as the United States. After pulling out of the 2015 package, Trump reimposed sweeping restrictions that the offer had lifted in exchange for UN-monitored limitations on Iran’s nuclear activities. He then adopted a “maximum pressure” legislation against Tehran. Since the deal broke down, Iran has increased its nuclear activities and is now enriching uranium to 60 %, far above the 3.67 percent cap but below the 90 percent required for weapons-grade material. In accordance with the 2015 agreement, sanctions could be imposed again through a” snapback” mechanism if Iran violates its obligations, which come into effect in October.
