JERUSALEM: Following the sound of air raid sirens in Jerusalem and different places on Sunday, the Israeli army announced it had intercepted a weapon fired from Yemen. A projectile launched from Yemen was intercepted, the military said in a statement following the lights that rang just a few minutes before in many areas of Israel. Since Hamas ‘ assault on Israel in October 2023, Yemen’s Huthi insurgents have consistently launched missiles and drones at Israel. The Iran-backed insurgents claimed duty for another described attack on Thursday that Sunday’s intrusion followed. The Huthis, who claim to be showing solidarity with Palestinians, halted their problems during a two-month peace in Gaza that ended in March but reopened after Israel resumed its defense presence there. Although the majority of the weapons have been intercepted, one missile launched in first May for the first time struck the Ben Gurion airport’s boundary. Israel has launched various strikes in Yemen in retribution for the attacks, including on Sanaa’s money Sanaa’s ports and airport.
