The EMU leader reiterates his determination to “protecting U.S. regional security.”

Due to Republican politicians ‘ worries about national security, Eastern Michigan University is cutting ties with two Chinese institutions.

According to a media release from EMU on Wednesday, the school will end its engineering-related training partnerships with Guangxi University and Beibu Gulf University.

In response to a letter from Michigan Representatives John Moolenaar and Tim Walberg in February, they urged EMU, Oakland University, and the University of Detroit Mercy to finish their collaboration with Chinese institutions.

On May 28, EMU President James Smith announced the selection and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to “protecting U.S. regional safety.” He also sent a notice to the lawmakers.

The U.S. National Security Agency has long recognized us as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense training. EMU complies fully with U.S. international reporting requirements, according to Smith.

” We are working with our spouse to break the system because EMU’s teaching relationship with GU does not now engage any individuals.” We have even decided to end our training collaboration with BGU after careful evaluation,” he said.

Smith added that the university is “working with BGU to ensure that the individuals who are now enrolled in the system are able to finish their scientific studies in an ordered way.”

The president made it clear that neither partnership was specifically intended to provide academic instruction, and that it was not involved in any research or technology transfer or training in cybersecurity.

According to the letter from Moolenaar and Walberg, the institutions ‘ partnerships with the People’s Republic of China harm the credibility of American research, introduce sensitive technologies to abuse, and undermine taxpayer funds intended to advance America’s scientific and defense prowess.

In response to the letter, Oakland University and the University of Detroit Mercy both agreed earlier this year to reduce relationships with Chinese institutions, according to Higher Ed Dive&nbsp.

According to The College Fix, Moolenaar and Walberg lately expressed similar concerns about the impact of the socialist nation on these common establishments in a text to the University of California System and State University of New York.

The email “urged the school systems to work to ensure that American small firms ‘ innovations stay out of the hands of our unusual enemies.”

The University of Michigan ended its two-decade collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University in a relevant shift in January, citing a “recent review” led by Rep. Moolenaar, according to The Fix.

Five past UMich students who graduated from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University relationship were accused of lying to federal government about socializing near a defense center in Michigan.
