Who is Izz al-Din al-Haddad? Hamas’ likely new chief after IDF eliminated Muhammad Sinwar

After a number of dangerous Jewish airstrikes wiped out almost all of the group’s mature commanders, Izz al-Din al-Haddad is emerging as the important figure heading Hamas, according to the Jerusalem Post. Muhammad Sinwar, the mind of Hamas’s military aircraft, was one of those killed, who had taken control after Yahya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif’s 2024 incidents. Al-Haddad has been a long-time part of Hamas ‘ Military Council, and he now appears to be the most mature chief to step down from the group’s pre-war Gaza management. Seniority in Hamas ‘ military leadershipThe European Council on Foreign Relations has long recognized that al-Haddad is a member of Hamas ‘ military leadership. He has been in charge of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades in Gaza City since 2021, and he has also commanded Hamas ‘ north Gaza regiment as of November 2023. According to The Jerusalem Post, Al-Haddad is now thought to be the last of the five original battalion commanders in Gaza, making him the most senior official to monitor Hamas ‘ military operations. Muhammad Sinwar’s death in Khan Younis was confirmed by the Israeli defense troops as a result of an attack carried out on May 13 at the European Hospital in Khan Younis. Additionally, Mahdi Quara and Muhammad Shabana, the leader of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, were killed during the procedure. A hidden Hamas command center was hit within 30 seconds of the attack, according to the IDF, hitting an underwater hospital above without causing any harm to the doctor above. Following Muhammad Deif’s death in July 2024, Sinwar was in charge of Hamas’s military aircraft. He had played a significant role in the planning of the problems on October 7, 2023, and was referred to by Israeli officials as “one of Hamas’s most mature and long-serving users of its military wing.” Al-Haddad’s growing influenceThe Times reported that al-Haddad was involved in planning the Israeli assault on October 7 and gave officers written instructions the night before the procedure. He reportedly oversaw both civil and military rebuilding efforts in Gaza, helping to manage hostages and system during the ceasefires. Al-Haddad is said to have survived six Israeli death attempt and is known to maintain a low profile. He reportedly limits his connections to prevent being tracked, and a$ 750, 000 wealth had previously been offered to him. He controls the organization responsible for the victims ‘ release, according to The Times, and has veto power over prisoner release ideas, including those that are currently being considered. A leadership vacuum Following the assassinations of Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Deif, and presently Muhammad Sinwar, Hamas finds itself with very few senior characters still in power. The genius of the October 7 attack, Yahya Sinwar, was killed in a battle in soon 2024. Muhammad Sinwar, his younger brother, ruled ineffectively until his dying in May. Israel Katz, the leader of the Israeli defense sector, made a comment regarding Sinwar’s death, saying:” Now it is recognized that the murderer has been eliminated along with the Rafah Brigade captain Muhammad Shabana and the cruel group who were with them at the European Hospital in Gaza. He was sent to satisfy his brother at the gates of hell.”
