Two Chinese nationals were charged with trying to smuggle a biological disease, which is considered a “potential agroterrorism tool ” into the United States while working at the University of Michigan, according to federal law enforcement officials on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Yunqing Jian and 34-year-old Zunyong Liu were charged with smuggling products into the United States, crime, card fraud, and making false statements, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan in a press release on Tuesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) is investigating Jian’s arrest in connection with allegations that the two Chinese nationals had allegedly smuggled a fungus called Fusarium graminearum into the US. The natural infection is regarded as a potential agroterrorism weapon, according to officials. ”

According to the U.S., “head plague, a condition of grains, barley, maize, and rice,” is a nasty fungus that causes billions of dollars in annual economic losses abroad. S. The Eastern District of Michigan attorney’s company stated. In humans and livestock, the toxins in Fusarium graminearum cause diarrhea, kidney damage, and biological issues. ”

FBI Director Kash Patel described the situation as a “sobering warning that the CCP is working around the clock to deploy workers and scientists to infiltrate American organizations and target our food supply, which would have grave effects, ” in a blog on X, formerly Twitter. ”

According to the press release on Tuesday, Jian claimed Jian’s work on the natural infection in China was supported by the Chinese state and that the Chinese national’s electrical provided proof of her “membership in and commitment to the Chinese Communist Party.” Additionally, it was claimed that Liu, who studies the same pathogen at a Chinese university, lied and later admitted to smuggling Fusarium graminearum through the Detroit Metropolitan Airport to conduct additional research on the pathogen at the University of Michigan.

One of the most pressing issues facing national security is the alleged actions of these Chinese nationals, including a devoted supporter of the Chinese Communist Party, according to U.S. S. Jerome F., the attorney Gogolon, Jr. said. These two aliens are accused of bringing a fungus, which has been labeled as a ‘potential agroterrorism weapon’, into the heartland of America, where they allegedly intended to use a University of Michigan laboratory to advance their plot. ”
