Officials announced on Wednesday that four well-known opposition figures in the Ivory Coast would not be eligible to run for president until after this month. In April, Tidjane Thiam, the leader of the main opposition party, the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast ( PDCI), was removed from the voter rolls after a court ruling cast doubt on his Ivornian nationality at the time of registration. Former president Laurent Gbagbo, his ex-right-hand person Charles Le Goude, and ex-prime secretary Guillaume Soro have been detained for years and never been re-elected. None of the four will be able to cast ballots or run for president on October 25. Alassane Ouattara, 83, who has been in power since 2011, is listed on the political record but has not yet made an announcement about whether he plans to run for president again. With more than 80 % of the vote, Ouattara won in 2015 and 2020. The political register would not be revised before the vote, according to Electoral Commission Chairman Ibrahime Kuibiert Coulibaly’s announcement on Monday. My removal from the independent political commission’s political list is a depressing but powerful illustration of Ivory Coast’s slide towards full democracy, Thiam said in a statement released on Wednesday. The former foreign lender, who has been away from Ivory Coast for more than two weeks, has filed an appeal with the UN Human Rights Committee, according to his party. In a statement sent to AFP, his attorney Mathias Chichportich claimed that denying the opposition leader “his social right” was” a serious violation of Ivory Coast’s global agreements.” According to Gbagbo’s African Peoples ‘ Party- Ivory Coast ( PPA-CI), the authorities “did not choose to listen to the advice, the calls for discussion, for reason,” according to its secretary general Jean-Gervais Tcheide, according to AFP. It’s unfortunate that they made the decision to force their way through, he said, adding that” We’re not going to let them do it.”

    Close all disagreements:

The last electoral list includes criticism characters who have made announcements that they will run for president. Former first lady Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, who spoke on behalf of an antagonism alliance, claimed that the requirements for a “peaceful, quiet vote” were not met. The political commission’s captain, Kuibiert Coulibaly, has demanded that all court judgments be respected in order to “put an ending to any debate” and to make Ivory Coast” a state governed by the rule of law.” Prior to the 2020 presidential vote, the electoral list was revised in June in advance of the October electoral time. 8.7 million citizens ‘ names are included in the last political register for this year’s vote, which is a nation with a large expat community and where almost half of the 30 million people are under the age of 18. Officials deny any political intervention in the political process, insisting that they adhere to the instructions of an independent court.
