Immigration and Customs Enforcement set a new report by carrying out its largest single-day activity, apprehending more than 2, 200 people, according to a NBC report citing an ICE director. This rise in arrests comes in response to White House orders to significantly improve enforcement activities. Numerous sources confirmed that many detainees were participants in ICE’s Alternative to Detention ( ATD ) program, which monitors non-threatening undocumented immigrants through regular check-ins at ICE facilities and electronic devices. Immigration attorneys from all over the country reported that ICE used a new tactic, sending out mass text messages to ATD participants to request earlier check-ins, leading to arrests upon arrival. An NBC News writer witnessed seven people being detained on Wednesday during a check-in at an ICE office in New York City. A 30-year-old Brazilian man’s distraught wife and daughter watched as masked soldiers led him away in cuffs, along with his distraught wife and daughter. Immigrant Soldiers Law Centre managing lawyer Margret Cargioli stressed that her client had been totally cooperative with all ICE demands and had been present at all appointments. Outside the emigration workplace, Veronica Navarrete observed frightened immigrants weighing whether or not to make their scheduled appointments, choosing between a possible arrest or an automatic deportation for non-returned check-ins. An ICE spokesperson stated that these people had received last removal orders from emigration judges and had not followed the law. The director, yet, didn’t respond right away when attorneys disputed this assertion and cited clients without consent. According to sources who were present at the meeting, Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff for plan, apparently issued an order to ICE management, requiring 3, 000 regular arrests or facing departure. The remaining paragraphs maintain the same scientific, clear tone, keeping the same amount of detail as it was before, avoiding symbolic language, and keeping the quoted text undamaged.
