After the aircraft realized that the Boeing 787-9 they were flying was not approved to get at Naples Airport because it was too great for the airport, the American Airlines plane had to make a sudden mid-air escape. The incident occurred on June 2, and the airlines claimed that the distraction to Rome was necessary for functional reasons. At 7:42 PM, American Airlines Flight AA780 crossed the Atlantic without event and left Philadelphia. It was scheduled to get in Naples at 10 am local day. However, the crew changed its course and redirected the flight to Rome Fiumicino Airport, which is 124 miles away from the destination as the aircraft began its descent into Naples ( NAP ). The bus carrying the people from Rome to Naples took two days. According to traditional flight info, United Airlines typically flys a Boeing 787-8 to Naples. The 787-9 is truly 20 feet longer than these two similar Dreamliner variants, despite having the same wings. Over the Tyrrhenian Sea, Flight 780 had to alter its program. The 787-8 is little enough to get at a aircraft with a Category 8 RFFS, but the 787-9 requires a Category 9 RFFS airports. The airport expert told 787-9 planes doesn’t get in Naples, according to aviation lover @xJonNYC, who first reported the incident on X. People were transferred to Naples by vehicle after landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport around 9:45 a.m., according to the airport director, according to Business Insider. We express our regret to them for causing this disturbance to their travels, they continued. According to Flightradar24, the 787-9 operated Flight 111 to Chicago after leaving Rome two and a half days later.
