President Emmanuel Macron of France may visit the Arctic beach on June 15 in opposition to President Trump’s pledge to “take power of Greenland” and with whom it claimed Macron would meet to discuss” protection in the North Atlantic and the Arctic.” Greenland, a semi-autonomous area that is a country of Denmark and a Nato ally, has recently been thrust from a remote, unproductive existence to the center of a geostrategic conflict as a result of Trump’s repeated demands that it someday join the US. Macron, who has seen in the provocations directed at Europe by the Trump government as an option for Western assertiveness, will be the first foreign head of state to visit Greenland since Trump launched his invasion strategy this time.” I think there’s a good chance that we could do it without military force,” he said in March. In March, US Vice President JD Vance traveled to Greenland. After fearing local protests, the trip was greatly reduced and kept to a far-off military base. Trump and the US were not mentioned in the European statement, but it was obvious that Greenland was being visited for the taking and not the country’s. Earlier this year, Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s foreign minister, offered to send troops to help protect the island. Danemark remained silent. Macron did make a stop in Greenland while traveling to Canada for the G-7 summit, which will take place on June 15 through June 17. Trump has also suggested that Canada should be incorporated into the US as the state of 51, thus Macron will be traveling from one of Trump’s geographical expansion targets to another. According to the news, discussions among the Greenland leaders would also be focused on” climate change, energy move, and safety in supply of crucial minerals.” nyt
