
The Trump administration imposed sanctions on four magistrates of the International Criminal Court for alleged” mistakes” against the U.S. and Israel, adding to the pressure on what the U.S. calls a highly polarized organization.
The choice comes in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order in February that imposes sanctions on ICC leaders who are looking into the , U.S. , and its allies.
The most recent fines include two judges from the ICC’s pertains department who authorized an investigation into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, past Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and staff in Afghanistan.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio  reported that” these four people have actively engaged in the ICC’s illegal and false actions against America or our near ally, Israel.” This dangerous statement and energy abuse violates Israel, the United States, and our friends.
According to a , State Department , the courts are Beti Hohler, Solomy Balungi Bossa, Reine Alapini- Gansou, and Carmen Ibanez Carranza.
The Hague-based tribunal called the punishment an attempt to undermine its democracy and said it “deplores” them.
Trump and his supporters have long accused the ICC of interfering with domestic, international, and domestic politics. In his first term, he imposed sanctions on an ICC attorney and one of her assistants for the investigation of allegations of British war crimes in , Afghanistan.
Last November, the judge issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu based on suspicion of war crimes committed in andnbsp, Gaza. The Israeli government has refuted the allegations, and the Biden administration has rejected the judge’s power.
The jury, which was established in 2002 to prosecute war crimes, murder, and other crimes, is not affiliated with the U.S., nor is Israel. It has issued 60 arrest warrants, including those for Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, and detained 21 individuals.
