If I were in L, I would remain safe and warm. A. The Mamas and the Papas sang “60 centuries before. California dreaming on for a wintry day. When all the foliage were brown and the sky was grey, it was the kind of position people had dreams of, even those who had never been there. &nbsp,

In” Los Angelenos,” Billy Joel wrote of a Los Angeles of” Midwestern ladies/High-heeled and faded,” and” New York cowboys” in their” sleek new sports cars,” which looks like a foreign country when viewed with modern eyes.

By the 1980s, we had all grown yet more cynical. ” I Love L. A.” by Randy Newman. came out in 1983, and he was unable to speak the city’s cheerful praises without making mention of the nasty underside:

    Look at the peak.

    Glance at those plants.

    Look at that backside, man.

He’s on his thighs, down on his knees.

    Glance at these people

There isn’t anything like them anywhere.

However, in the end, Randy adored L.A., from the hobos to the ladies to Century Boulevard? Indeed, Century Boulevard. &nbsp,

Nowadays, I was unable to explain what L. A. means in popular culture, which is a strangely disorienting thing to say. You can’t pin your hand on just one thing or a moment in time. It kind of occurred while people were busy doing other things, much like a failed partnership.

I don’t have to explain what L.A. is going through. Switch on the television or do some X-themed doomscrolling.

Of course, the riots just provide a small portion of the L.A. history. There is still a lot of charm in the country. Suppose you can manage it, that is. The days are long gone when that Neil Diamond range from” I Am… I Said” was accurate:” Palm plants grow and prices are small.”

    I’m sad for the earworm.

Speaking in a more general way, I can’t recall the last time a politician or a regular person mentioned the California Dream, which was much because it was located in California than the American Dream. &nbsp,

    The position was everything.

Hollywood’s exotic creativity. The Bay Area’s economic vitality. Wine-producing nation. shores. snowboarding. The unmatched output of gardening in the valley. vehicle culture Aerospace. Los Angeles song landscape Woods. Fuel. Disneyland. world-class institutions. Gentile obnoxiness growing network And all of it was encased in light and a calm demeanor that defied the energy.

Los Angeles and California were startlingly tight if they were never quite as ideal as popular culture had depicted them to be. If it weren’t so desired, it wouldn’t have developed into the most populous state in the union, and it would have done so in good order as well. &nbsp,

I didn’t go over the myriad of things that have happened in California over the past 30 years, but I will suggest this. California’s tools and natural elegance weren’t the factors that contributed to its existence, though they certainly did attract the kind of ambitious and creative individuals who did.

However, as the opportunities and the persons changed as well as the politics. When I left San Francisco in 1994, the writing was on the walls. &nbsp,

The majority of the information from California now is the kind of unpleasant that natural beauty can’t cover: riots, drugs, poverty, homelessness, crap maps, and an extremely royal financial stratification.

The wealthy and powerful also have their San Francisco houses and shopping on Rodeo Drive in Sea Cliff and Presidio Heights. How’s your poop image for everyone else, and remember to bring your helmet during the riot season. &nbsp,

If the real isn’t quite as terrible as I’ve painted it, wait, because parts are shockingly nearer. That’s L. A. in today’s common mind.
