Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif. ) called for a “full and complete Congressional investigation” on Tuesday into the Los Angeles Police Department’s delay in responding to the major riots over the weekend in Los Angeles against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) operations.
Issa, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, stated in a press release from Tuesday that he wanted a “full and comprehensive Parliamentary analysis” into the Los Angeles Police Department’s delayed reaction to protesters who were assaulting ICE leaders.
We need to understand if the political leadership of the City of Los Angeles, the State of California, or anyone else directed the LAPD to stand down and refuse to respond to the rioters ‘ calls to stop, burn, or even kill them as they proudly carried out their sworn duties, according to Issa in a statement obtained by Fox News.
In a media release from the Department of Homeland Security on Saturday, it was revealed that over 1, 000 protesters had “assaulted ICE law enforcement officers, slashed wheels, defaced buildings, and taxpayer-funded house” in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the protesters in two days, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell responded to the Department of Homeland Security’s assertion by saying,” Anyone who works as a police officer don’t believe it, and certainly anyone with the LAPD don’t imagine how that could happen,” McDonnell said to reporters on Sunday. It didn’t, of course, arise.
McDonnell claimed that the Los Angeles Police Department’s response moment was just 40 minutes and was delayed as a result of traffic, but Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary to the Department of Homeland Security, refuted McDonnell’s statements in a statement to Fox News on Monday.
According to McLaughlin,” The fact is that it took the Los Angeles Police Department two hours to respond.” Over 1, 000 protesters surrounded a federal law enforcement tower, assaulted ICE law enforcement, slammed wheels, defaced houses, and took up taxpayer-funded home during that period. DHS is appreciative that the LAPD is presently stepping up to assist in restoring law and order.
