Many state officials claim that Doug Skaff Jr., a well-known Charleston businessman and former participant of the West Virginia House of Delegates, died on Tuesday afternoon in a vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Lewis region. Around 4:15 p.m., Skaff, 48, was traveling southern when his car collided between the Jane Lew and Weston exits. He was later declared dead at the scene. Skaff, a long-time number in state politics and business, spent more than ten years in the House of Delegates, including a word as the House majority head. Additionally, he unsuccessfully ran efforts for secretary of state and state Senate. He even held the office of president of HD Media in addition to his social job. Governor of West Virginia Patrick Morrisey paid gift to Skaff’s achievements on social media while chancellor of West Virginia Patrick Morrisey acknowledged his departure. Mayor of Charleston Amy Shuler Goodwin also expressed condolences via a statement published on her official site:” I am shocked and heartbroken to know of Doug Skaff’s moving. He was a distinguished public servant and business, but most essential, he was a great spouse, father, and child. Skaff spoke about upholding the restaurant’s long-standing cultures, foods, and atmosphere in a May 22 meeting with the “580 Life” television program. He even discussed how he recovered from a serious snakebite incident in 2024 when he was bitten by several copperheads in Danville while obtaining campaign signs. He described himself as” just blessed” to be walking again after spending several weeks in the hospital. Skaff said he had been making headway in resuming normal activities despite also being unable to work or climb.
