According to people with knowledge of the situation and documents obtained by the NYT, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is urging Congress to look into whether Harvard University’s collaboration with a Chinese health coverage meeting may have resulted in officials being blacklisted by the US government. Last month, Rubio reaffirmed his desire to launch an investigation, which experts and former government officials described as an unexpected attempt by the cupboard secretary to target a local institution for sanctions enforcement. It’s unclear whether the Office of Foreign Assets Control, an agency in the Treasury that handles punishment, opened an inspection in reply, but doing so was put Harvard at risk. President Trump has been trying to impose his social agenda on Harvard for decades. Initial repercussions for the work were generally those that university officials claimed college officials had not done much to combat anti-semitism on campus. The emphasis has nevertheless grown to various issues in recent weeks, including allegations about Harvard’s international ties, mainly China. Treasury Department spokesman declined to comment. Additionally, a spokesperson for the state department declined to comment. A representative for Harvard declined to comment.
