After a heated incident that led to Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA ) being detained after he interrupted the secretary’s press conference on Thursday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she no longer recognizes Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Bass and Noem first joined the House in 2011 and continued to serve until Noem left the Senate in 2019 to be South Dakota’s government.
Noem was attacked by Bass for labeling Los Angeles a “war zone” and calling it an “outright lie.” The president next claimed that she was unable to recognize her former coworker.
” Madam Secretary, I did not realize you anymore after serving with the secretary in Congress for perhaps ten years,” Bass said. ” I do not know the Kristi Noem that I served with for ten times.”
Noem stated previously that Los Angeles would be “liberated” by the Department of Homeland Security. Noem said,” We’re going to be around and develop our operations until we make certain we liberate the city.”
Bass questioned how Noem didn’t recognize Padilla as she was.
How could you possibly claim to not be aware of who he was? Bass enquired.
Security was now wrestling with the lawmaker as he began,” Madam Secretary, I want to know why you insist on exaggerating and embellishing,” before being pushed back toward the exit as she was approached. These initiatives are exhibited by Padilla as resisting.
As surveillance wrestled with the senator, who was still trying to move in Noem’s way, Padilla told them to get their hands off of him, stating that he was there to ask questions before being pushed through the doors and corridor outside, where images showed him being ground and handcuffed and brought to the surface.
It is possible that at the press conference, Padilla did not recognize the lawmaker or overheard Noem speak.
Padilla responded to the detention, implying that the management is even cruelly treating people.
You may just think what they’re doing to labourers, waiters, and day laborers all over California and across the nation if this is how this leadership responds to a Senator with a problem. He said in a statement on X that” we may maintain this administration accountable.”
Eventually, Padilla claimed to be led into the tower and the press conference by a security guard.
Noem claimed that she exchanged phone numbers with the legislator and spoke to him for 15 days.

She posted on X,” I met with Senator Padilla for 15 days after he interrupted our press event with law enforcement. We probably disagree with 90 % of the questions, but we agreed to talk and we would continue to talk. That’s how it should be in this region. Instead of causing a field, I wish he had acted in that manner in the beginning.
Noem previously claimed that she first didn’t recognize who Padilla was.
