
On Wednesday evening, all 12 members of the board of the Fulbright program, who are tasked with granting Americans and immigrants the renowned scholarship to maintain their academic studies, resigned. They expressed concern that the Trump administration‘s goals are being undermined and affecting.
In a blog to Substack, the committee stated,” We don’t take our departure lightly.” However, to continue serving after the Administration has repeatedly rejected the Board’s ask to comply with the law would result in legalizing our deliberations and compromising America’s standing worldwide. In fact, the decline of the Fulbright system erodes America and our national security interests.
The State Department is in charge of the Fulbright programme, which was established by Congress 80 times before. Members of the board shared that Congress gave them “final acceptance” regarding the administration of its honours, a process that has been carried out in a democratic manner under both Democratic and Republican administrations.
The table accused the Trump presidency of undermining its authority by disqualifying” a sizable number of candidates for the intellectual year 2025-2026.” Additionally, the committee reported that 1,200 foreign Foreign recipients had their records reviewed without permission by the Trump administration.
The board stated that” we believe these actions are incompatible with the Foreign mission and the values that Congress have stated in the statute, including free speech and intellectual freedom.” It is important to point out that studies in categories like biology, executive, architecture, agriculture, crop sciences, pet sciences, biochemistry, health sciences, music, and history are included in the awards that were overturned.
The panel argued that the Trump administration’s “undermines” the agency’s selection process, which is “based on significance, not philosophy.”

Additionally, the panel members noted that they frequently emailed administration officials with their concerns.
The State Department claimed that the Fulbright board’s claim that it had the last say in determining scholarships recipients was wrong.
