Due to a military parade that is expected to halt traffic in Washington, D.C., federal employees may receive a unique break from the Trump government’s return-to-office orders.
Although the present included restrictions, employees at various companies were given the opportunity to telemedicine from Wednesday through Friday of this week.
The Federal Government will continue to be OPEN. Federal employees who work in downtown Washington, DC should be aware of the possibility of commuting delays and travel restrictions, however, due to the potential for increased traffic, road closures, and related commuting disruptions. These employees should allow extra time for traveling, whether by private vehicle or public transportation, to and from work.
Therefore, supervisors were given the opportunity to direct employees who were eligible for telework, and they were given the option to do so for the final three days of the week.
Employees may also make a request for annual leave or other designated time off, according to the notice. Employees are advised to keep an eye on the local news media for information about traffic disruptions for both vehicles and pedestrians, as well as news reports about traffic closures.
If the notice applies to all federal agencies, it’s not clear if it applies. The Office of Management and Budget confirmed this week that it had a similar policy in place but said it could not speak for other departments. The White House did not respond to inquiries from the Washington Examiner.
The Department of Education, the General Services Administration, and the Department of Labor have contacted other agencies to inquire about their remote work policies for this week.
After retaking the White House, President Donald Trump began directing federal employees back to work after many of them had spent the better part of five years working from home. One of Trump’s many actions that sparked unrest among government employees in Washington, D.C., was this one.
Trump’s support for peaceful protests is the subject of a” stupid question” in the White House.
Employee unions argued that some buildings didn’t have enough room for workers in some and that other buildings needed significant repairs because of their underutilization between 2020 and early 2025. Further crucial were theirs as the Department of Government Efficiency led efforts to eliminate thousands of workers across various organizations.
The majority of federal employees in Washington, D.C., were not initially Trump supporters. In the nation’s capital last year, Kamala Harris received 90 % of the vote, compared to just 6 % of the vote. Maryland and Virginia’s suburban areas were similarly divided, and both states chose Harris in 2024.
As a parade marking the military’s 250th anniversary, which falls on the same day as Trump’s birthday, prepares to descend on Washington this Saturday in a match between national” No Kings” protests planned in more than 1,500 cities, including D.C.
On the National Mall, an estimated 200 000 people are expected to attend the occasion.
