After the suspect’s appearance in court on Thursday night, district attorney Steve Wolfson said prosecutors did consider asking for the death penalty after he was charged with the shooting that left two people dead in front of the Bellagio on Sunday.
On Monday, Manuel Ruiz, 41, turned himself in to Henderson authorities. According to authorities, the live-streaming shooting was the result of a long-running cultural internet conflict.
Rodney Finley, 44, and Tanisha Finley, 43, were the victims, according to the Clark County sheriff’s office.
When asked about the possibility of the death penalty, Wolfson said,” Whenever we have a condition where two people are dead, excessively, blindly, it’s an option, and that’s something we’ll look into in the coming days.”
The city lawyer added that the Las Vegas Strip is still a secure location.
He claimed that these situations are “unique.”
Public keeper Violet Radosta testified in a receiving before the Justice of the Peace of Las Vegas Amy Chelini that Ruiz has not been able to talk to his community about hiring a private attorney but wants to do so. Rodriguez stated that she intends to file a written request for loan for her client.
Ruiz was detained without bail on Tuesday and originally appeared in court. He has claimed to have acted in self defence despite the fact that no weapons were discovered at the scene and that he had fled after the killing, according to authorities.
Wolfson referred to the self defence say as” I think it’s perhaps garbage.” There is no sign from any of the evidence at all that personal protection would be a viable defense. No arms were discovered close to the subjects or on them. No one at all, in all of the numerous interviews conducted on this case ( with ) eyewitnesses, mentioned either of these people having weapons or even acting as though they were reaching for a weapon.
Ruiz is currently held without bail and is scheduled to go back in court on July 3 after facing two counts of crime with the use of a dangerous weapon.
