The View cohost Ana Navarro described her participation in the nationwide “No Kings ” protests over the weekend as “uplifting ” during a panel discussion on the demonstrations that coincided with the U. S. Army‘s 250th anniversary events and President Donald Trump’s 79th day in Washington, D. C.
“ I was one of those millions of Americans who went out and protested, ” Navarro said on the ABC News program Monday. “It was thus inspiring … just getting off the sofa, getting off Twitter, and going and doing things, and being in community ’cause I think a lot of us have felt anxiety and grief in the last five decades [since Trump retook office]. ”
“ I saw so many people that weren’t Latino or refugees holding up signs for the integrity of the immigrant community, ” she added.
She described seeing a different cross-section of Americans: soldiers, seniors, youngsters, people of all races and backgrounds, numerous waving National flags and singing along.
“We may become frightened, ” she said, “but together we are brave and we are harsh. ”
Cohost Sunny Hostin praised the consolidated information of the demonstrations and noted that they avoided disrespecting the military while also sending a powerful message.
“The backlash, I think, to President Trump’s military parade is going to be pretty swift, ” Hostin warned, criticizing the$ 45 million price tag and citing a documentary, What I Want You To Know, by two Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who condemned the event as a misuse of taxpayer funds.
Sara Haines echoed Navarro’s attitude, calling the marches a second step.
“The next step is to go back to your specific areas and swarm and coalesce around group leaders, ” she urged. “This has to start grassroots and go up because we can’t depend on [change ] to come from the top down. ”
Alyssa Farah Griffin added that the demonstrations revealed growing political commitment, particularly among those earlier tuned out.
“Ninety million persons who were eligible to vote did not vote in 2024. That’s more votes than Trump received — 77 million — and more than 75 million that [former Vice President Kamala] Harris had, ” she noted. “It feels like something is happening … and that ’s how change happens. ”
Goldberg wrapped the discussion with a call for continuing political commitment.
“We have officials, but it ’s up to us … If I don’t look out for you, what am I doing? ” she said. “This things that ’s happening is un-American. ”
