This year, Brown University ceded control of its governing physique, promising that if the activists decided to end their encampment on the school, that the university’s governing body would consider approving a vote on a divestment from Israel.

According to the&nbsp, Jerusalem Post, that makes Brown the second school to acquire withdrawal from Israel.

In December, 41 pro- Israel activists were arrested after occupying an management tower. Local Israeli leaders and church expressed concern about the presence of antisemitism in an area of campus known as the Main Green in April, which prompted activists to seize control of the area. They reacted by claiming that some of the chants used by activists both on and off campus were racist and called for the ban on Israel.

Brown, like Northwestern University, chose to succumb to the crowd rather than enforcing college policies.

    The&nbsp, Brown Daily Herald&nbsp, reported:

Following this afternoon’s partnership between camp administrators and University officials, the Corporation, Brown’s highest governing body, did vote on withdrawal from businesses connected to Israel at its October meet. At a march, administrators made the announcement.

By 5 p.m. now, administrators have agreed to clean the Main Green camp and to halt any unauthorised demonstrations through Commencement, which runs until May 26. The University has been urged by students in the camp to stop charging the 41 students who were detained in a Dec. 11 sit-in and to leave the company that has ties to the Israeli state. At this time, allegations against the 41 individuals who have been detained will not be dropped.

    …

According to the agreement, students may also experience disciplinary hearings for their participation in the camp.

Another local Jewish organizations expressed concern over the encampment’s destruction, while campus priests on the street reacted in relief. Brown was accused of “validating a motion replete with hatred and hate” by Rabbin Ron Fish of the Anti-Defamation League’s New England book. He claimed that Brown had previously opposed withdrawal and that Brown’s offer would only serve as fuel for more radical opposition and “antisemitic harassment” of Jews.

” This history is not yet over but this is a sad chapter and a dark time for Brown University”, he concluded.
