On Friday on PBS ‘” Burning Range,” NYT journalist and Duke Professor Frank Bruni claimed that many young progressives had not acknowledged the horrifying nature of the Israeli terror attack on October 7, 2023.
Guest Margaret Hoover said,” You teach on a school campus”.
Bruni said,” I teach at Duke University”.
Hoover said,” You’re a teacher at Duke University. What do you think about how this topic has become so influential among the current generation of college students, as a teacher?
Bruni said,” You know, a lot of school students in this technology, there’s a sort of model they use or a glass they use to kind of review the world. And in this context, those who have less money, those who have less energy, and even those who have darker body has essentially been being defrauded, and are therefore most likely to be in the correct.
He said”, So they’re predisposed to take the side of what they deem the little person based on those concepts?”
Bruni said”, They are, and I think you saw that sing out after October 7. Hear, I mean, there’s certainly a pious case to be made for Palestinians deserving our attention, our compassion, our advocacy, et al. However, if you looked at what transpired right after October 7th, you saw many young people, many younger individuals on the democratic left, or” social justice troops,” as they’re sometimes called, refuse to even acknowledge the horror of what had happened in Israel. They just kind of instantly applied this model and began advocating not just for Palestinians, but in a bizarre manner, at times, for Hamas.”
