Japan: Japan hit up Saturday at US President Joe Biden’s remarks about the Asian alliance being” racist” like China and Russia, calling the description “unfortunate” and mistaken.
At a current promotion function, Biden argued that the four financial powers were struggling because they were unwilling to accept refugees and that allies Japan and India were competing with China and Russia.
” Why is China stalling but badly financially? Why is Japan in problem? Why is Russia in problems? And India? Because they’re racist. They do n’t want immigrants”, the president said on Wednesday.
” You and many others are one of the reasons our economy is growing,” he said. Why? Because we welcome newcomers”, the senator added.
Tokyo responded on Saturday by saying it was “unfortunate that comments were made that did n’t reflect the country’s policy in an accurate way,” according to a government statement.
According to the speech, the Chinese government had already sent this information to the White House and once more explained its positions and policies.
In a unique example of high-level politics, Biden made the remarks less than a fortnight after hosting a beautiful state supper for his Chinese counterpart Fumio Kishida.
The 81- yr- old Democrat’s sudden digs at Japan immediately prompted the White House to tone them over.
According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the leader was simply trying to convey to reporters that” the United States is a state of refugees.”
” It’s in our DNA”, he said.
Tokyo, for its part, said this clarification had n’t been lost.
” We’re aware of the US government’s explanation that the comments in question were n’t made for the purpose of harming the importance and perpetuity of the Japan- US relationships”, its statement said.
