Leading Indian-American organizations have urged the president of Rutgers University in New Jersey to outlaw the screen of a dissident Kashmiri flag on its school, arguing that it would send an inappropriate message in the wake of Israeli military action in Gaza.
Over 1,400 people died as a result of the unreported problems by Hamas militants against Israel on October 7. Israel has responded by launching a major counter-offensive against the Islamic violent party that has ruled Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Hamas-run Gaza health government claims that during the past nearly seven months of Israel and Hamas hostilities, at least 34, 622 people have died in the Israeli territory.
A group of individuals who were protesting at Rutgers University claimed that eight of their ten expectations had been fulfilled on Friday. The demands are made in stage nine,” Display of the banners of held peoples, including but not limited to Palestine, Kurds, and Kashmiris,” in all places where Rutgers campuses display international flags.
However, sources close to PTI claimed that the school refused to comply with the demands of the protesters. The Office of the Chancellor did check the flags that are displayed on the University of New Brunswick school and make sure there are students who are enrolled in the university’s academic programs.
Numerous Indian-American organizations reacted to the group’s assertions, which urged the college to abstain from allowing the display of a dissident Kashmiri flag on its campus. Rutgers University “has caved,” according to Suhag Shukla of the Hindu American Foundation ( HAF ).
The Coalition of Hindus of North America ( HNA ) expressed similar sentiments to those of the HAF when it claimed that Rutgers University” caved in to hate and approved the display of a flag that terrorized Kashmir’s small surviving indigenous minority.” Additionally, according to CoHNA, Kashmiri Hindus were routinely driven out of their ancient home, Kashmir, a location whose name was derived from the ancestor Kashyap.
Dharma Viveka claimed on X that Rutgers University’s negotiation with communist jerks and agreements, failing to manage resources evenly and betraying people believe, set a bad example for all public institutions, especially universities across the US. One of the largest amounts of Indian Americans in the US is located in New Jersey, which is why the school has a sizable number of Indian pupils.
Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway wrote a letter to the president of the organization, Thomas Abraham, in opposition to kids ‘ demands that they display the colors of displaced persons on the school. He claimed that the school was taking the requirement into account and that it questioned India’s moral character and that Kashmir is a fundamental part of India without a distinctive flag. Abraham made it clear that the Hindu minority who were compelled to flee Kashmir as a result of murder were the ones who were displaced. He warned that if Rutgers displays a Kashmir symbol, individuals who oppose such flags may engage in more sit-ins. Abraham argued that Rutgers University does not participate in international student affairs because it is a public educational institution that is open to all.
