Students of Justice in Palestine ( SJP) at the University of California Santa Cruz have launched a stark antisemitic demand that includes the university breaking ties with Jewish community organizations.
SJP set up its “encampment” on school on Thursday, joining an endeavor that has seen lots of colleges taken over by protesters calling for the loss of Israel, demanding the emancipation of officers, and slamming the United States.
The , City on a Hill Press, the pupil- run regular paper at UC Santa Cruz, reported , that the protesters were acting on guidance from international (emphasis added ):
UC Divest organized the rally, and Students for Justice in Palestine ( SJP) of Santa Cruz, with the support of SJP National, are operating the encampment. Although the activities were not , directly linked, there was overlap among members, with the staff ‘ protest expressing unity with Palestine.
…
According to Dax, a student and consultant for the encampment,” Our SJP regional is responding to a call that came down from the SJP National, which came down from Arab Youth Movement organizers in Palestine.”
The Times of Israel noted SJP’s expectations:
Under its call for a” full academic boycott”, SJP demands that the California university,” Cut ties UC wide with all nationalist companies — including study abroad programs, fellowships, courses, study cooperation and institutions. Cut relations with the Hellen Diller base, Koret basis, Israel Institute and Hillel International”.
…
The Bay Area JCRC writes on X, previously Online, that” Jewish organizations and social groups” are three of the four companies that encampment activists at UCSC have called for in an academic protest.
” They are pillars of the Jewish community. This is n’t just about opposing Israel’s Gaza actions but seems aimed at Jewish institutions, revealing underlying antisemitism”, the Jewish group adds.
Hillel is merely a Hebrew organization that offers Jews on campus, worldwide, religious and cultural services, as native Bay Area Israeli leaders have pointed out.
Three of the four companies cited in the scientific ban demand by camp campaigners at @UCSC are Israeli charities and social groups: Helen Diller Foundation, @KoretFoundation, and @HillelIntl.

Similar demands have been made by activists elsewhere. At UC Riverside, SJP demanded a commitment to boycott Sabra hummus. Sabra is an American company, but the word” Sabra” is a Hebrew term referring to a native- born Israeli.
Despite the fact that the demand violates civil rights laws barring discrimination on the basis of nationality, and also violates California’s “anti- BDS” law barring boycotts of Israel or other nations, UC Riverside agreed to the demand.
