Although the White House would never specify what conditions Hamas had accepted, the Biden presidency welcomed Hamas’s unexpected declaration on Monday that it had accepted a peace in Gaza.
Just hours after Israel launched its assault on Hamas in its final enclave of Rafah, in Gaza, by averting civilians to depart, Hamas announced its agreement on Monday with unknown terms suggested by Iranian and Qatari mediators.
Hamas allegedly rejected its proposal’s conditions, according to Israel.
That left questions about whether a bargain exists or whether Hamas is fabricating one to prevent Israel.
John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House’s National Security Council, said at a Monday briefing that he would n’t speculate about what was in Hamas ‘ “agreement.”
I fully appreciate your attention, and you guys are all asking the right questions and being pretty good, but I really appreciate your understanding that speaking from this pulpit would be the last thing I would ever want to do in order to risk this extremely delicate process. Right now, we are in a crucial position. We’ve got a reply from Hamas. Now]CIA ] Director]William ] Burns is working through that, to assess it, working with the Israelis — I mean, my goodness, folks, I do n’t know that it gets any more sensitive than right now. And the worst thing we can do is begin making speculative predictions about what’s in it.
Kirby claimed to not know whether Hamas ‘ claim to have reached an agreement was a” trick” when speaking to Fox News ‘ Jacqui Heinrich.
Kirby questioned Israel’s determination to shut down Al Jazeera, a Qatar-backed network that had been Hamas ‘ advertising store during the war, because” the work of independent media around the world is completely vital.”
Ukraine banned , some Soviet- owned media in 2021, which appears to have passed unnoticed by the White House.
