The Christian materialist movement, known as Catharism, spread to southern France and northern Italy in the 12th century. Christians can undoubtedly attest that this was neither the second nor the last heretic challenge to conservative Christianity in medieval Europe.
In any event, the Cathars largely believed, among many other doctrines, in two angels: one of immortal god and another of earthly bad. Pope Innocent III felt compelled to start the Albigensian Crusade to end this religious immorality because the belief became so well-known that it appeared to be against religious independence. Hundreds of thousands possible perished. In one European Cathar area, 20, 000 people were reported slaughtered under catholic proconsul.
I thought of the Cathars, as one does, when Kirby , responded , to a query about the United States ‘ support for Israel’s goal of eliminating Hamas with his , popular , trope —” You’re not going to remove an ideology through defense businesses”. Unlike the , Albigensian Crusaders,  , of training, Israel is taking extraordinary precautions to protect the human life of their opponents— yet though Hamas, unlike , feudal Christians, hides behind them.
The worst part of Kirby ‘s , platitudinous nonsense, however,  , is that it creates the impression Israel is , trying , to eliminate an entire “ideology” rather than trying to eradicate an organized military and cultural force that uses theology for violent political aims. Israel ca n’t, of course, subdue the souls of Gazans into right-thinking individuals. It is essentially negate Hamas ‘ grip on place and provide its philosophy useless. It is endanger Hamas’s supporters and take their military might to justice. For now, that’s great much.
Why are we sending hundreds of billions to Ukraine to combat Putin’st hostility if fighting war to defend intelligent ideas against wicked ones is really like a waste of time? We are constantly assured that the German war is a struggle between “autocracy” and “democracy”. These are intellectual tents. Had Kirby argue that Volodymyr Zelensky’s political power may be wasted if it were to succeed?
Why did we struggle any war, for that matter? Why did we struggle al- Qaida? After the American Revolutionary War, there must have been both supporters of servitude and conservatives who had left. After World War II, there were numerous Germans nearby. The good news was that their rulers either committed horrific deaths, were detained, or were forced to hide in South American forests because they worried that Mossad officials did approach them and take them to Israel to face charges for their offences. Most German civilians, even one- time fervent Nazis, made their peace with reality and moved on.
One hopes that Hamas ‘ leaders who are now residing in Qatari resorts will wonder if they will end up falling out of a 20th-story window despite Kirby’s objections when it is obliterated in Gaza. And one hopes that the Palestinians, like the Germans and Japanese, will finally come to terms with reality and build better lives.  ,
