Sunak made a press briefing highlighting the need to set up a UK-based uranium enrichment plant, citing” Russia has been the only provider of this potent nuclear energy for very long, and this is the latest stage in pushing him completely out of the energy market.”
The project is anticipated to result in 400 skilled jobs and provide power for the UK’s upcoming nuclear power plants, reducing the need for superior Russian nuclear fuel in different nations. Following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Daily Mail report stated that it is a part of wider efforts to improve energy security and keep Moscow away from global energy industry.
The new center will feed the new era of advanced modular reactors, which will be required to double the UK’s nuclear capability by 2050, according to power secretary Claire Coutinho. Also, the government intends to simplify the planning process for developing nuclear fusion systems by inviting businesses to submit proposals for funding to build the UK’s first commercially feasible integration plant.
