Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NY ) claimed on Tuesday’s “CNN News Central” that Hamas is “emboldened” by the violence and protests on college campuses and that Columbia’s cancellation of its commencement was giving in to those who seized buildings and endangered people.
You do n’t want to turn your back on people who are causing campus unrest and putting people in danger, according to Gottheimer, who cited the Columbia cancellation of its commencement as “very disheartening.” To me, that’s intolerable, that’s the series we need to draw”.
He added,” ]Y ] esterday was just a big Hamas PR stunt. They have experienced public support for these protests on college campuses [es ] and the violence on college campuses where Hamas supporters are demonstrating in support of the organization, as they have publicly stated. We are Hamas, a lot of these children are screaming out in support of these jihadists. It’s very difficult to see this moving forward until Hamas releases the captives, including the Americans, and makes sure we set the scene and make it clear that until that happens, until they stop firing rockets as they did, only once this day at the cross where humanitarian help is coming over in Gaza. I’m hopeful and optimistic that this will be unique now, but the bottom line is, Hamas keeps walking away from the dealing stand, and that’s very frustrating”.
