The New Hartford Central School in Utica, New York, hosted a scholar art competition that some people are calling “racist” and has sparked controversy.
The painting is apparently a parody of grain advertisements, but this one has raised brow. The” Monkey Premium Cereal” product is marketed as” Monkey Premium Cereal,” but the bigger issue is that the artwork features an image of NBA legend LeBron James kicking a basketball into a cereal bowl.
If you consume Monkey Premium cereal, you can climb higher and slam like LeBron James, which is the catchphrase on the mock advertisements.
Some parents called Utica television station WIBX in concern and questioned how the school may permit the creation of an image of a famous black athlete as well as the term “monkey” to be entered into the arts contest and displayed there.
Many parents were outraged that the school did not stop the use of LeBron James ‘ image in the” Monkey Cereal” artwork because it is a long-standing racist trope that refers to black people as monkeys.
Dr. Cosimo Tangorra, the director of schools in New Hartford, stated that the event is being investigated and that the student had been contacted. He continued, noting that the institution had “divulge certain information regarding the pupil.”
He also appeared to make up for the tragedy, claiming that the incident is being “used as a meaningful moment” by authorities.
” Despite our efforts, it is apparent that more work needs to be done to issue and increase awareness about prejudices, biases, and discrimination”, Tangorra added.
