State once more requests that Annunciation House be shut down.
The attorney general of Texas is asking a condition prosecutor to halt operations at one of El Paso’s largest immigrant advocacy organizations because they failed to comply with information requests.
The 205th , Judicial District’s temporary injunction lawsuit alleges Annunciation House broke the law by preventing the Attorney General’s Office from “inspect, study, and create copies” of its procedure records. It , says that it , violates at least two condition criminal statutes and asks that the nonprofit’s membership be revoked.
The State requests that the judge grant temporary injunctive relief to stop Annunciation House from operating during the duration of this lawsuit.
Annunciation House’s lawyer, Jerry Wesevich, told KTSM,” There is no constitutional basis to help any of today’s temporary lawsuit filed by the Texas AG’s business. This data was presented to the court in February, and it is the same. At that time, the judge set an ordered process in place. We intend to follow that method”.
Next February, the state attorney’s office charged Annunciation House with unlawfully orchestrating border crossings and referred to its immigrant house as a” hoard house.”
Annunciation House denied the claims. A who’s who of El Paso municipal, state, national, and community leaders instantly defended the volunteer and labeled the complaint and claims a political stunt by Republican state elected representatives.
Annunciation House allegedly made false statements to avoid producing documents, according to the position. That makes reference to claims that creating such records may require special treatment and that it would be detrimental to its church. The volunteer is trust- based.
The nonprofit, according to the AG’s Office, allegedly made sworn claims that sum to admission that it routinely engages in criminal behavior, including knowingly abusing undocumented immigrants and shielding them from recognition by blocking state access to its services.  ,  ,
In February, Annunciation House filed a protection complaint against the Attorney General’s Office.
State District Judge Francisco X. Dominguez turned down requests to halt the country’s ask to review its documents at a March reading. The judge next successfully halted all actions until he had a final opinion about the AG’s Office request’s constitutionality.
Wesevich wants the judge to grant an order in Annunciation House’s pursuit by filing a summary view in the case in the next two weeks. The AG’s department is attempting to compel a choice before the information is presented to the court, the AG’s office claims.
Following the AG’s office’s petition on Wednesday, Judge Dominguez will determine whether to keep a second hearing in the case.
