According to a report from a Rolling Stone article, US President Donald Trump has pledged to send “assassination teams” to Mexico if he is re-elected in the forthcoming presidential elections.
In the midst of Mexico’s expanding fentanyl trouble, the Democratic presidential nominee claimed to have three of his associates who knew the US military had” tougher killers” who could be used to “wage war” against the country’s drug cartels.
Trump raised the idea of sending special operations troops to Mexico’s most notorious drug gangs, with or without the president’s consent, in response to the US military’s demand for a hit similar to the implementation of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019.
According to the statement, Trump reportedly advised an ally that special forces may create a “kill listing of medication lords” to target or capture.
Trump criticized the US government for not conducting similar strikes before claiming that removing gang leaders would stifle” the kingpins” and stifle their drug operations.
Trump has formally promised to “make correct use of Special Forces, digital war, and other overt and covert actions to impose greatest harm on cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations” if he returns to the White House.
No details about the programs, such as how many squads or troops would be sent to Mexico or how well would the Mexican government cooperate, have been made public thus far.
