EL PASO, Texas ( Border Report )— A former Border Patrol agent who solicited a$ 5, 000 bribe to help a woman with her , “papers”  , has been sentenced to prison.  ,
Fernando Castillo, 42, of El Paso, pleaded guilty to one count of corruption of a common standard in February.  , On , Thursday, he , was sentenced , to 18 months in prison , and a , year of care upon discharge,  , plus , a$ 100 fine.  ,
When Castillo approached the Peruvian woman who was awaiting imprisonment, according to court records obtained by Border Report, she was employed by the Central Processing Center. Castillo said , he ‘d , get the woman , “papeles”  , or , “papers” , , for$ 5, 000 as he , was driving , her to the border.  ,
The girl notified border officials when she realized , that money , was missing from her purse, records state. FBI agents looked up her record and discovered that Castillo had recently changed her emigration position, largely allowing her to re-enter the country.
According to documents, Castillo called the girl several times to talk about their layout while she was with them.  ,
When Castillo met the woman and obtained the false records, agents apprehended her.
” A , federal officer who sells his office for personal gain shatters public trust in government officials” , , said U. S. Attorney Jaime Esparza.  ,” However,  , Castillo ‘s , violence badly tarnishes the fair soldiers who serve the public with dedication , day in and day out.  , We , may gladly hold officers like Castillo responsible”.
Castillo denied stealing funds from the victim’s purse.
