The technology sector is awash with information about OpenAI’s plans to release a research item powered by AI that was immediately compete with Google as it gets ready for its annual I/O conference.
The Verge reports that in a move that had probably destroy Google’s grip on the research industry, OpenAI is reportedly set to declare an Artificial- based search product on Monday, only one day before Google’s I/O conference. This new growth, revealed by two publications familiar with the matter, follows earlier information from Bloomberg and the Knowledge, both suggesting OpenAI is working on a powerful search feature.
The new research element has been covered by both Bloomberg and the Information, with Bloomberg suggesting that OpenAI’s search feature will be integrated into its well-known ChatGPT bot and include references, while the Information claims that OpenAI’s search service may be “partly powered by Bing.” This new research solution could utilize the existing respect people have in OpenAI’s services, providing an alternative to Google’s seek offerings.
Prior to retiring them in favor of GPTs, OpenAI had previously attempted to grant ChatGPT access to live web data using ChatGPT plugins. The apparent shift in Google’s strategy comes as the search market is increasingly competitive. The industry is seeing a significant change in its competitive landscape as a result of OpenAI’s alleged aggressive attempts to poach Google employees for its search offering and the DOJ’s ongoing antitrust lawsuit.
Google search boss Prabhakar Raghavan recently acknowledged the potential threats to Google’s dominance, stating,” It’s not like life is going to be hunky- dory, forever. If there’s a clear and present market reality, we need to twitch faster, like the athletes twitch faster”. Google needs to take action to stay relevant in the search market in order to remain relevant.
