At the start of artist Jerry Seinfeld’s talk at Duke University on Sunday, some few pro-Palestine students walked out in protest of his unwavering support for Israel. Seinfeld, who is Jewish, has become more outspoken just about racism.
A small group of protesters left as the artist was announced amid cheers and shouting, but a small number of students did so at the ceremony’s beginning.
” Disclose, divest — we will not stop, we will not rest” and” Free, free, free Palestine” echoed in the stadium as Seinfeld was announced, the Duke Chronicle student newspaper reported. Some students yelled” Jerry!” while the learners who left held a Palestinian flag upright. Jerry”! at the start of his talk, and he was given an honorary diploma from Duke, the magazine reported.
One of the walk-out’s student organizers, Senior Skijler Hutson, wrote in an email on May 12 that Duke University’s decision to have Seinfeld talk at the service” solidified what has long been known: taking action against holocaust.”
According to Deadline,” Seinfeld has been a outspoken supporter of Israel since the assault on October 7,” and he “also met with the hostage’s people and went to a community destroyed by the terror attack during a trip to Israel in December.” In his Duke statement, Seinfeld did not touch on the Gaza issue.
ABC 11 reported , Seinfeld’s discourse was peppered with quips and inspiring words of wisdom:
” You went to Duke, that is an amazing opportunity. I now have an honourable degree, a humanitarian words level from Duke University, and if I can figure out a way to use that, I will”, Seinfeld said adding a piece of advice to graduates.

In the end, Seinfeld advised students to put forth job and maintain their laughter as they move forward in life.
Some users of social media expressed doubt about the demonstration. ” Think supporting Hamas on Jerry Seinfeld.” He and Larry David could n’t have scripted a story this ridiculous”, one observer posted on X.

In the past, Seinfeld has expressed his resentment toward university students. Seinfeld criticized politically correct humor in 2015 and declared he would no longer perform on college campuses.
” They just want to apply these words: ‘ That’s sexist,’ ‘ That’s sexist,’ ‘ That’s discrimination,'” he said about university students at the time. ” They do n’t know what the f—k they’re talking about”.
