In honor of law enforcement officials, House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) lit up his business with violet lights ahead of police year.
Emmer posted a picture of his company at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC, which lit up with violet lights to blow off National Police Week, which starts on May 16 and continues through May 16.
In honor of our country’s daring law enforcement officers, Emmer wrote,” We’re starting National Police Month by lighting my Capitol business blue.” The House GOP generally supports the azure, according to the statement.
In honor of our world’s daring law enforcement officers, we’re kicking off National Police Year by lighting my Capitol office in blue.

National Police Week is a month that provides “honor, memory, and gaze help” to law enforcement officials, while encouraging authorities officers, survivors, and ordinary citizens to “pay devotion” to the law enforcement officials who gave their lives serving, according to the National Police Week site.
The site explains:
May 15 was designated Peace Officers Memorial Day and the month following that day as Police Week under a declaration signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from all over the world converge on Washington, DC to take part in various designed activities in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Police officers nationwide faced severe criticism and calls for defunding the policeman following the death of George Floyd in 2020, which led to fewer candidates applying for the positions and fewer people starting applying for them.
Police departments all over the country have waived some needs and looked for recruits outside of the position in an effort to recruit more police. Pennsylvania Gov. In August 2023, Josh Shapiro ( D) made state trooper requirements a non-college degree requirement. In an effort to recruit police officers, the Metropolitan Police Department ( MPD ) ran subway and bus advertisements in New York City.
According to Washington, DC’s Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Lindsey Appiah, the Metropolitan Police Department in the District of Columbia has reportedly had more soldiers than they did in the previous governmental time for the first time in a while.
According to reports, the MPD is adding 18 more law enforcement officers than may be leaving the current fiscal year. This comes after the MPD has recently hired more soldiers than they did in recent years.
In 2023, violence in the world’s money soared to new peaks than were reported in 2022, according to crime statistics from the MPD site.
There were 274 deaths in the area during 2023, a 35 cent raise from 2022’s 203 deaths. There were 3, 470 burglaries in the area during 2023, a 67 percent improve from 2022’s 2, 076 thefts. There were also 6, 829 motor vehicle theft occurrences during 2023, an 82 cent increase from 2022’s 3, 756 motor vehicle theft situations.
