( NewsNation ) — Now that the Texas government says Fronton Island, a 170- acre body of land surrounded by the Rio Grande in Texas is under their control, they are now battling to keep it.
Prior to now, Cartel members had been robbing a lot on Fronton Island, with images showing trained operatives traversing the land and assisting with human trafficking. According to Texas Department of Public Safety authorities, another images showed cartel operatives hurling explosives to amplify their “intimidation techniques.”
However, as part of Operation Flat Top, Texas authorities removed gang activity from Fronton Island in September. After discovering that the house was the state’s home, the Texas General Land Office granted DPS access to the area on September 7. After DPS and some removed all foliage and leveled the island, Operation Flat Top was finished on November 27.
According to Texas leaders, this made it nearly impossible for gang members to obstruct law enforcement.
The Texas General Land Office stated in a media release from February that” gang activity has decreased by 100 % since the start of Operation Flat Top.”
The International Water Boundary Commission claims to be identifying and halting development in the region’s affected by the creek. This includes the illegal construction work, the constructed property bridges, and the concertina fence installed, which blocks the flow that usually occurs during planned and unplanned flood events. According to the IWBC, it has the potential to cause the river’s movement toward Mexico to be sway in contravention of the 1970 Treaty.
If national leaders attempt to evict that property from the condition, it would be a “fight,” according to Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, who described these concerns as “political.”
Buckingham said,” I would encourage them to actually secure the border if they did get that home.”
