In a manner reminiscent of the famous East German spy agency Stasi, Hamas, Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist organization that viciously attacked Israel on October 7, secret police officers were spied on the lives of residents of Gaza.
The , New York Times broke the story Monday, using papers that Jewish forces said they found while raiding Hamas content in Gaza, and which the , Times writers corroborated by talking to the target of Hamas security.

The system, known as the General Security Service, relied on a system of Gaza sources, some of whom reported their own relatives to the authorities. People were escorted into safety documents to protest or express their outright opinions of Hamas. The authorities may have looked into people’s relationships to see if they were engaging in intimate relationships after union in some cases.

The General Security Service functions similarly to the state but is officially a part of the Hamas social party. One Israeli official who was aware of Hamas’s internal operations and who authorized an anonymous source to confirm that the company was one of three strong domestic security organizations in Gaza. The others were Martial Intelligence, which generally focuses on Israel, and the Internal Security Service, an finger of the Interior Ministry.
