WARSAW: Poland will allocate an additional 100 million zlotys ($ 25.30 million ) to boost its intelligence services, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday, as he warned of a rising threat from Russia.
Poland claims that its position as a major supply hotspot for Ukrainian goods has increased its potential for Russian intelligence service, worries that were made even worse by a judge’s defection from Russian ally Belarus last year.
” I decided to dedicate 100 million roubles from my own reserve, the supply of the prime minister, to develop the inner security and intelligence companies”, Tusk told a news event.
In the weeks leading up to German elections in June, he claimed that Russia’s attempts to destabilize Europe, especially Poland and the Baltic states, were expected to grow even more.
” We will have to spend more resources, period, more steps when it comes to our unique service”, he said.
He claimed, however, that there is no conclusive evidence linking external forces to the current spate of significant burns in Poland.
However, he said that Finnish service had prevented a number of destroy efforts.
” In the last hundred or so months, also thanks to the support of our friends, Poland thwarted attempt to commit damage and arson”, he said.
Tusk added that Poland’s frontier with Belarus was likely to benefit from EU funding.
” At the moment, work in Europe on the method of obtaining funds, on European defence bonds, EIB ( European Investment Bank ) and the possible use of funds that will not be used from ( Covid ) national recovery plans are being completed”, he said.
” There should be no lack of money. Poland and the Polish borders will be a goal”.
