A dominant officer and four soldiers were killed in an attack on a blog of the army in northeastern Iraq, according to safety sources, and the Islamic State claimed responsibility on Tuesday for it.
The attack occurred in the provinces of Diyala and Salahuddin, a remote area that has remained a hotbed of radical activity since Iraq won the group’s most recent victory in 2017.
In a speech mourning the passing of a captain and a number of others from the army, the defense department said on Monday that security forces resisted the assault. Five additional people were reported to have been hurt, according to the security solutions.
Machine guns and bombs were used in a statement from Islamic State on Telegram to attack the camp.
Following the chaos of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion and years of terrible separatist conflict that followed, Iraq has seen comparative security stability.
