In Santa Fe, New Mexico, in June 2021, three immigrant men from Guatemala have admitted guilt or been found guilty of group raping a blind person. Another immigrant, accused of being the ring president, has since apparently fled to Guatemala.
Oscar Rene Juarez Lopez, a 45- year- ancient Guatemalan nationwide, pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping and was sentenced to 20 years in prison this year, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.
According to Deputy District Attorney Haley Murphy, Lopez, along with 26- yr- ancient Owin Erlandi Lemus Cardona, 34- yr- old , Edward Climaco Velis, and , 21- yr- old Josue Donaldo Leon Cartagena— all migrants from Guatemala — forced the woman into a vehicle in the early morning hours of June 13, 2021.
The person, according to Murphy, was therefore gang raped by the four men in a “multi- hours problem” where she was treated “like meat amongst a pack of wolves”. Some of the murder was filmed, according to prosecution.
After group raping her, the people dropped her off at her house. The lady rushed to a local hospital to take a sexual assault exam after reporting the incident to the police.
In February, Cardona was convicted of theft, plot, and unlawful sexual penetration by a Santa Fe judge. He is awaiting imprisonment and could spend up to 43 years in prison.
In May of last year, Velis admitted guilt to crime and unlawful sexual penetration. According to the term of his plea bargain, he could spend up to 18 years in prison, but he is anticipated to get 13 years.
Authorities believe that Cartagena, who is allegedly the ringleader of the crew rape, lives in Guatemala and is still on the lookout for his arrest. According to the prosecution, Cartagena recently admitted to being a part of the gang rape and gave the names of the three other people.
