Following a six-year struggle with prostate cancer, renowned guitarist David Sanborn passed away on Sunday at the age of 78.
” It is with sad and heavy hearts that we communicate to you the decline of internationally renowned, 6 day Grammy Award- winning, guitarist, David Sanborn”, read an statement posted to Sanborn’s social media accounts on Monday.

” Mr. Sanborn passed Sunday evening, May 12th, after an extended struggle with prostate cancer with problems”, the message continued, adding that the , guitarist “had been dealing with , prostate cancers since 2018, but had been able to maintain his normal routine of recitals until just late”.
” Indeed he now had music scheduled into 2025″, the communication added.
The news concluded by stating that , Sanborn “was a pivotal figure in modern music and dance music”, noting that it has been said he “put the , saxophone again into Rock ‘ n Roll”.
Sanborn, who played the alto sax, got his big break , in 1967 performing in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, with which he ended up performing at Woodstock, according to a report by TMZ.

He was known for connecting the kingdoms of , music, rock, blues, and R&, B throughout his career.
Sanborn even recorded with “rock and mind traditions including, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, D’Angelo, Al Jarreau, Billy Joel, Elton John, Carly Simon, and The Rolling Stones”, among many others, TMZ noted.
Also,  , Sanborn played in the Saturday Night Live group in 1980, and was often seen , on , Slow Night with David Letterman , in , Paul Shaffer’s group.

The guitarist also had eight golden songs and , one platinum album.
Sanborn is survived by his family Alice, his brother Jonathan, and his two grandchildren, as well as his aunts Sallie and Barb.
