LONDON: King Charles of Britain on Tuesday unveiled his first official portrait since his coronation in May, created by artist Jonathan Yeo.
A moth positioned just above Charles ‘ back in the Welsh Guards military uniform is displayed in the painting against a dramatic dark background.
Ellis, aged 53, who has recently painted Charles ‘ late parents Prince Philip, commented on the portrait’s development, stating,” Much like the caterpillar I’ve painted hovering over his head, this painting has evolved as the subject’s role in our common life has transformed”.
The artist expressed his desire to honor the customs of imperial portraiture while showcasing a contemporary monarchy and putting emphasis on the King’s deep humanity. The painting, measuring about 8- 1/2 by 6- 1/2 feet, was commissioned in 2020 to celebrate the then Prince of Wales’s 50 years as a member of The Drapers ‘ Company, a offer- giving organization, in 2022.
Yeo, known for his photographs of distinctive characters such as David Attenborough, Nicole Kidman, and Tony Blair, created the oil on canvas painting, which is set to be exhibited at Drapers ‘ Hall in London’s economic area starting from the end of August, when announced by the house.
