Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu faced a public challenge on Wednesday from his own defense chief, who vowed to resist any Israeli military rule over the wrecked Palestinian enclave.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed in a press conference that he had attempted to promote a Palestinian-led other administration shortly after the fight broke out on October 7.
