It’s getting harder and harder to believe the war in Ukraine, now in its fourth year, is about “defending democracy”, as our social leaders in Washington insist.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrives in Ukraine to provide billions of dollars from the United States to account the war, declares that Ukraine’s set spring elections will be postponed until” problems allow,” and then travels to a well-known Kyiv bar to perform a boomerish rendition of Neil Young’s” Rockin’ in the Free World.”
That really occurred this year.  ,
And it happened simply times after , Russia unleashed an armoured ground offensive , in Ukraine’s east near the government’s subsequent- largest city, Kharkiv.  ,
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been repeating for years that the country is in desperate need of even more Western aid, but that Ukraine is also capable of “winning” this war, i .e., extinguishing all Russian forces from Ukrainian territory.
At this point, no one really believes that. Nor does anyone really think — if they ever did — that Ukraine, one of the most crooked places in the world , before , the war began, is a bastion of democracy. However, asked about national elections in Ukraine, which were scheduled for this flower but have been delayed eternally, Blinken said plainly that there will be no votes until” all Ukrainians” you vote.
So long as Russia controls any Ukrainian place, that would mean no votes, even if a peace or peace strategy was in place. In other words, it’s a formula for the Ukraine’s ongoing elections to be suspended because any peace or negotiated serenity agreement will unavoidably result in Russia taking control of at least some of the country.
There is also a lot of deceit at play here between the Zelensky state and the Biden administration. Russian elections have been held by the pro-Russian eastern regions of the country and the pro-European northern regions for many years, with the latter constantly accusing Moscow of meddling in the government’s elections to maintain Ukraine in Russia’s circle. Glance at a chart of Ukraine’s poll results from 2004 or 2010, and it’s easy to view the geological- political split in the country.  ,
Many of those citizens in the northeast regions of Ukraine have now been deposed due to the Russian invasion. So why would Ukraine’s recent pro-West leadership want to postpone elections until these pro-Russian regions can cast ballots?
Permit me to speculate that the emphasis on” all Ukrainians” being able to vote is a cynical ploy to prevent votes from taking place in the near future, at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theory. Maybe Zelensky knows that Ukrainians, if given the chance, would vote his regime out of office and pursue peace negotiations with Moscow that Zelensky’s Western sponsors wo n’t allow.
Given what we know about Western elites ‘ view of “democracy”, it is n’t that far- fetched. After all, when they talk about “protecting democracy” here in the U. S., they do n’t mean ensuring that citizens can vote in the leaders of their choosing. They mean preventing the institutions of democratic society from reform, according to cybersecurity expert Mike Benz, who spoke on a Tucker Carlson podcast back in February. These include institutions like the CIA, FBI, IMF, and World Bank. Those institutions, not the will of the voters, are what must be protected above all. And if it comes down to it, the institutions must be shielded from the voters; that is, “democracy” must be shielded from the threat of free and fair elections.
We would do well to consider what it might mean for election here at home, even though it’s easy to scoff at the indefinite postponement of elections in Ukraine ( and even easier to scoff at Blinken’s cringe-inducing guitar playing in Kyiv). The truth is that our own deep state might try to use this exact rhetoric to postpone or postpone elections in the United States one day, perhaps even in November.  ,
It’s not difficult to imagine how that might turn out. A series of threats or purported attacks on “election infrastructure” would lead to calls for a delay, until we can ensure that , all , Americans can vote. In time, the categories of Americans who , must , be allowed to vote in order for the election to be legitimate might even expand to include felons and illegal immigrants. Is that far- fetched? After what we saw in 2020, I do n’t think so.
The main takeaway from the canceled elections in Ukraine is that the permanent regime in Washington does n’t really want free and fair elections in Ukraine right now. They do n’t really want free and fair elections here in America: The voters might get in the way of their agenda, and they ca n’t have that.
