In a press conference on Thursday, Houston’s president John Whitmire claimed in a press conference that at least four people had died as a result of the extreme weather that slammed south Texas.
Two people were killed by fallen trees, another was killed by a broken crane, and the cause of the third death is questionable, Whitmire said only before 10: 00 p. m. on Thursday, according to WFAA.
The governor told non-essential workers to remain home on Friday, calling down “downtown is a chaos” after the town experienced winds at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
” Stay at home evening, do not go to job tomorrow unless you’re an important employee. Be house, take care of your children”, Whitmire said. ” Our second firefighters are working around the clock,” they say.
With no transportation lights on all over the city, the damage has been done to numerous power lines and trees, which have caused severe damage and traffic congestion.
The powerful winds, according to KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul, resemble those of a cyclone.  ,
” If you lived through the base of these breezes, you went through the equivalent of a Cat 1, if hardly a Cat 2 hurricane”, he said during a wind review.

Almost 1 million people were left without power, according to WFAA, and the water system on the eastern side of town was cut off from the electricity grid and has been running off of producers.

Whitmire added that the area is recovering and that local authorities are providing shelter to those in need.  ,
Officers would be out monitoring throughout the day, according to acting Houston Police Chief Larry Satterwhite.  ,
Samuel Pea, the captain of Houston’s fire department, issued a warning about fuel leaks in particular, stating that his agency has received numerous calls about people finding gas inside their homes.  ,
” He said if you smell gas inside your home, you need to leave quickly and contact 911 from outside”, WFAA reported.
