A new Harvard-Hillary surveys conducted in May confirms data from earlier polls that suggested about 80 % of Americans support Israel over Hamas in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The findings, emerging from a test of 1, 660 registered voters with a 2 % margin of error, replicate the results from the same ballot earlier in the year. In the May version, tested in the field from May 15 to 16, the exact numbers were 79 % in favor of Israel ( as opposed to 80 % in April ) and 21 % in favor of Hamas ( as opposed to 20 % in the April poll ).
A ceasefire should only be in place once the remaining Israeli ( and American ) hostages are freed and Hamas is no longer in power, according to two-thirds ( 66 % ) of voters. Israel should proceed with its activity against Hamas in Rafah, according to a 74 percent of respondents, which is in conflict with the Biden administration’s position.
Moreover, 56 % said that President Joe Biden’s decision to withhold some arms from Israel “mainly embolden]s ] Hamas and backers like Iran to continue the war and violent actions”. Just those 18- 24 years aged barely disagreed.
Similarly, 57 % said that they believed” Biden should continue to provide Israel with weapons, even if it enters Rafah”.
In terms of Iran, 78 % of registered voters attributed Iran to Hamas and Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks on Israel, and 69 % to Iran, which is more attributable to Iran than Israel. Two- thirds ( 66 % ) favored sanctions on Iran, rather than negotiations, as a means to convince it to abandon the pursuit of nuclear weapons, 63 % said they would expect Iran to violate any such deal.
The fact that voters appear to resist Biden administration boldly — usually by three- to- one margins— suggests that the White House is taking its cues from the voice, extreme “progressive” minority or the anti- Israel , campus “encampments” rather than the preferences of the vast majority of the British people.
