Following its Cannes debut, Donald Trump’s political campaign has criticized the highly anticipated biopic The Apprentice  and threatened to sue the directors.
” We will be filing a petition to address the blatantly false claims from these wish filmmakers”, the Trump campaign’s general director Steven Cheung said in a speech to , Variety. This rubbish is “pure literature that sensationalizes lies that have been much refuted.”
This is election interference by Hollywood leaders, he said,” as with the improper Biden Trials,” because they are aware that President Trump will reclaim the White House and defeat their selection because everything they have done has worked.
Cheung more called the video “malicious defamation”.
” This’ film’ is pure harmful defamation, should not see the light of day, and does n’t also deserve a place in the right- to- DVD section of a bargain bin at a shortly- to- be- closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire”, he said.
The Apprentice , which was directed by the Iranian-Danish director Ali Abbasi, debuted at the Cannes International Film Festival on Monday and has received mixed reviews. Some critics laud it as a bone-chilling warning stories, while others label it as a cheap film portrayal of the former chairman that always rises above a low polemic. A particular scene later in the movie, in which Trump assaults and rapes his ex-wife, Ivana Trump, caused controversy among critics.  , From , The Guardian:
The scene, which occurs near the end of , The Apprentice, depicts Trump reacting with fury after Ivana disparages his physical appearance. ” You have a face like a fucking orange”, she tells him. ” You’re getting fat, you’re getting ugly, and you’re getting bald”. Then, the future president is depicted raping and forcing his wife to the ground. ” Did I find your G- spot”? he asks in the film.
In her 1990 divorce deposition, Ivana Trump described a similar assault that she said occurred shortly after her husband’s scalp- reduction surgery. She claimed that Trump pushed her to the ground and pulled out a few of her hair. Ivana initially described what followed as a rape, but she later refuted that assertion. In a 1993 statement, she said,” On one occasion during 1989, Mr Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage. I called this a rape because I felt violated, but I do n’t want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal way.
In the divorce proceeding, the former president claimed that Ivana’s claims were “apparently false.” Ivana Trump passed away in July of this year in Bedminster, New Jersey, and her body is buried there.
Despite its debut at Cannes and it being a hard anti- Trump film,  , The Apprentice , has not yet scored a U. S. Distributor and some critics have been brutal in their reviews.
” The monstrosity here is almost sentimental, a cartoon Xeroxed from many other satirical Trump takes and knowing prophetic echoes of his political future”, wrote Peter Bradshaw in , The Guardian.
This origin story is” clearly hidden from the start and increasingly uncertain of its purpose as it fumbles toward the Trump we know,” wrote David Ehrlich for IndieWire.” It’s certainly not as painful to watch as it presumably has been, but it’s just as banal and unnecessary.
